Obituary
Lutheraneren
April 26, 1922
Ole Hansen, New Market, Minn., passed away quietly and peacefully in the belief of his
savior March 24, 1922 in
his home in New Market, nearly 87 years old. He had been rather weak this winter, otherwise
it was only the last
week he lived when he was very sick. Hansen was born in Hallens parish in North Telemark,
September 30,
1835. He learned shoemaker work in Skien, and operated a shomaker business there until
1862, when he
emegrated to America. He came over by sailing ship from Porsgrund, and was 18 weeks on the
sea. He came
first to Yorkville, Wisconsin to his uncle, Tyge Hendricksen (Father of the well-known, now
deceased Professor
Peter Hendricksen). He married Jorgine Martea Larson in 1863. He moved from Yorkville to
Muskego,
Wisconsin in 1864 and to new Market, Minnesota in 1872, where he has since lived on his
farm. The marriage
was blessed with 13 children, of whom 9 survive him, together with his wife. There are also
59 grandchildren and
18 great grandchildren surviving. Hansen was a churchman and one of the founders of
Christiania congregation.
The Norwegian keeps him strong, and the mother church he has always loved. He was a
faithful Lutheran, and
the Bible was his book. He was laid to rest at the Christiania Congregation's west church
cemetery.
(The original obituary is written in Norwegian).

Tombstone Inscription:
HANSON
2
FATHER
OLE
1835-1922
Ole is listed on the same stone as Martha. The stone has the words PIONEERS written on it.
This stone, the one
for Eda and Theodor and the one for grandchildren, Clara, Oliver, Anton are all made out of
the same material. It
looks like they may have been redone or something as they all look the same. These people
are all buried in the
same cemetery plot.
and info from Millie Ohnstad/Jean Marthaler:
Dommerud is the name of a farm in Telemark. I do not have resources in my house that would
tell me which person came from there, but would suspect that it was Ole. There was one other
Dommerud at Christiania: Ole Haldorsen, Married to Anne Andreasdtr (Logan?) The name
Dommerud drifts in and out of the records.Ole and Martha's family are named Hanson on the 1880
Scott County Census in New Market, and the cemetery records the name is Hanson.
Ole Hansen Dommerud joined the church at age 38. 1880 Census at New Market age 45 b. in

These last two are a puzzle, they are not on the baptism records, and not on the burial
records, but according to the cemetery lists they are buried with the family. If they are Ole
and Martha's children, they had fifteen, not thirteen, children. It is possible that they
were grandchildren.
